San Francisco May Slap Warning Labels on Ads for Sugary Drinks

San Francisco city officials will vote on a proposal to slap warning labels on advertisements for sugary drinks this Tuesday, as part of a continuing campaign to curb consumption of sweetened beverages.

The city’s board of Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on the “Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Warning Ordinance” this Tuesday, AP reports. Beverage advertisements within city limits would be required to bear a label that reads, “WARNING: Drinking beverages with added sugar(s) contributes to obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay.”

The vote comes only months after voters rejected a proposal to raise taxes on sugary drinks, over the objections of beverage trade associations.
